The case of the missing Kitty and Sophie (My Toy Story)

Raegan has two favorite toys since she was a teeny baby, and they are the first ones we throw in the diaper bag for an outing. 1- Kitty: Striped skinny sock cat, and 2-Sophie the squeaky rubber giraffe. She has always adored these toys. When playing in the midst of all of her toys, I can ask her to go find Sophie and she will plow through the toys to find her (or him, as it might be). I have seen her holding into Kitty's arm, sitting her on the train or dancing her on the floor. So, on Monday morning when I was packing the diaper bag to run a few errands and I went to throw Sophie and Kitty in the bag and they were no where to be found, I was baffled. We had run some errands Saturday, and suddenly the last place I remembered seeing them was at lunch (at Chili's). It was a chaotic lunch and we were rushed to leave because Raegan was way past nap time. I wondered if in our hustle out of the restaurant, had we left Sophie and Kitty? I was slightly horrified. I called Chili's and asked the hostess "Have you by any chance seen a rubber giraffe and a striped kitty?" Nope. No baby toys at all in the lost and found. :( Where could they be? I spent most of Monday looking in every crack and crevice for these two missing toys. I have to admit that Toy Story the movie crossed my mind. Maybe the toys came to life and were lost somewhere. So, after admittedly losing my mind as well, I decided I would simply buy Raegan replacement animals. Of course, Sophie and Kitty aren't cheap baby toys. Sophie - food grade die and 100% rubber is a steep $20 and Kitty- 100% organic cotton runs about $15 plus shipping...plus, she was a limited edition and I was having trouble finding any place on the internet that wasn't "sold out." I must keep searching! I looked all over the house again.

Next, on my way home from work Tuesday, I cruised the Chili's parking lot. On Valentine's day. Cruising the parking lot for a cat and a giraffe. Wow - parenthood is nuts.

Maybe I had lost them there, when I was getting in to the car? I imagined a tire marked Kitty and a dirty Sophie laying "dead" in the parking lot. But, they were not there. I grimaced. They were gone! Out of thin air! Toy Story seemed like the most legitimate explanation at this point.

I cam home and decided I would give it a week, before forking out the money for replacement toys. After being home for about an hour, I'm sitting in the chair when Jasen says non-nonchalantly, "Oh yeah, look who showed up." And there they were. Laying on the living room floor. Jasen found the duo when moving around the ottoman in the living room. One was shoved under the media center, and the other one stuck under the ottoman. I swear I looked there! Twice!

Thank goodness! Raegan was so happy to see them both. She grabbed Kitty by the arm and waved her in the air, squealing. I was just sitting back, wondering if a slinky dog and a short armed dinosaur had rescued them! ;) I think I'm a believer in the Toy Story idea. Either way, I have an eye appointment coming up soon.
