We took a much deserved vacation to Mexico the week after Easter (also to celebrate our 2 year anniversary)! Jen and Andy went with us as well, and we stayed at a Dreams all inclusive resort just over an hour south of Cancun. Technically, the area was named Puerto Adventruas. One side of the resport was beach side, and the other backed up to a Marina. It was really beautiful, and overall we were impressed with the resort! We flew there on Easter Sunday, and actually the flights there and back went really smoothly- no delays or lost luggage or other small inconveniences. So, that part was a relief! The one downside to the trip was the horrendous amount of kids everywhere. According to Carlos, a bartender we quickly befriended, the weeks around Easter are particulaly packed with kids. Perhaps packed was an understatement. I firmly believe that the kids could have organized mutany and taken over the resort if they had wished. Fortunately, the marina side of the resort was adult only, which included a nice pool, bar, and seafood restaurant. When we had enough of the kids at the beach (Andy was scolded by two mothers who heard him say the not so nice name for prostitute), we headed to the adult side! I think the lesson here is to not go around Easter time, or to simply go to an adult only resort.
The resort had four different restaurants, and a buffet. Mostly, we ate the restaurants which were actually quite impressive, with nice selections on the menu! Jasen booked us a Tee time at a VERY nice and VERY challenging golf course. We played 18 holes (well, most of use did), with a cart of course. I quote Jasen in saying that the rented clubs were not forgiving....but neither were the twenty foot bunkers! My main goal was to stay alive and NOT die of dehydration. Goal met! :)Another day we went to down town Playa del Carmen, and in a word, it was HOT. But after a while, we found a very cool place to have lunch on the ocean with a nice breeze. We walked to town and made a few little suvenire purchases before heading back to the resort and jumping in the pool!
Minus the kids, we would recommend this resort! Ther serving staff were excellent, with beach side and pool side drinks every 30 minutes or less! We even had 24 hour room service, and so one night after dancing I ordered chips and salsa at 1:00am. :) Delicious! The weather was gorgeous the whole week....not a drop of rain. Also, no Montezuma's revenge...yay!!
